Mathematics & English Tuition
Tutors follow the National Curriculum and create personalised lessons using the ‘Programme of Study’ checklist for each child’s year group. We support children with any challenging topics or learning gaps, by spending as much time as needed to ensure a secure understanding.
Does your child experience a bit of ‘maths panic’? Are they struggling on their phonics journey? Does your child lack enjoyment of creative writing or comprehension of longer passages? Do they find spelling a challenge?
In our private sessions, we have the benefit of being able to spend as long as we need on specific skills or topics. We can work at each child’s own pace and take our time on those more challenging areas, so that they feel completely confident and comfortable before we move on.
It is important for us to track the children’s retention of every skill and topic we cover, to ensure they have fully absorbed the knowledge, and can continue to show their understanding.
Game-based learning
Tutors include a wide variety of different activities in each lesson, to ensure the children stay engaged and motivated. Examples of some of the types of activities we bring are board games, bingo, matching pairs, snakes and ladders, dice roll, whiteboard fun, and many more! As we get to know each child, we find out more about their interests, and what games they enjoy. It is important to us to combine fun and learning together, to inspire a love of learning, and build the children’s understanding and confidence.
Our teaching style is learning through games and practical activities, as well as working through things on paper. We believe the hour lesson works best for children, when we create a lesson based around a variety of different learning exercises, combining a mix of games to revise and topics to teach.
It is our priority that the children enjoy sessions with us and look forward to their tutor coming each week. We want to develop a great bond with each student, ensure they feel comfortable and happy, and this will lead to the most progress and attainment.
Tailored Sessions
We support each child by tailoring lessons to them as an individual – the areas to focus on, their learning style and their personality. Tutors prepare lessons each week with the individual student in mind.
Initially, we have an in-depth chat with you about your child, their learning journey so far, and your reasons for tuition. We create learning goals together and discuss the maths to English ratio within the weekly hour lesson.
Your tutor will take things from here and will be getting to know your child each week, continuously assessing their knowledge, skills and confidence whilst ensuring they have a brilliant time!
As private tutors, we repeatedly adapt to each student; ensuring they are working on the relevant topics, focusing on those tricky areas, and moving on to greater depth when necessary.
